Dexter

When drawing him as a teenager I usually try to keep his facial scruff shorter, and his ears and glasses bigger. His ears are something he grows into over time.

He is almost never seen without his glasses, which feature red/pink (FL-41 lenses) tinted lenses that help with the migraines he is prone to.

Stylistically, I often draw my characters with black eyelids. This is not representative of make up, I just appreciate this artistic choice. If an eye color is needed for a particular style, a light brown can be used.

Dex is easy going and laid back, with a tempterment thats challenging to ruffle. Even in a quarrel, your efforts to get him shouting will be wasted. Dex is extremely polite and considerate, sometime to a comical degree even with close friends. His is a most valuable listener; an excellent friend when in need of someone to talk to. In these circumstances, his best quality is to simply listen, and finds that just being there is often what someone needs.

With great listening comes great knowledge, and Dex's small town certainly has enough to say. Dex is a gatherer of gossip and news, and while its mostly to satisfy his own curiosities, he is in possession of a deep well of secrets, lies, affairs, and interpersonal dramas involving everyone’s cousin. Tony once questioned him on why he so often eats alone at the diner, and Dex only remarked that there’s plenty to catch up on at the diner at 11am over coffee.

Dex sports many unique interest, one of which is his clothing selections. Growing up, this warranted a large amount of teasing from his peers. Unfortunately for them, Dex is impervious to what others think of him and his interests, and possesses a carefree attitude in pursuing all of the things he enjoys.

As a teenager, Dex's clothing is baggy and ill fit. His pants are tattered at the ends due to treading on them and his shirts often swallow his figure. He can wear any color of button up with any pattern, though the patterns trend toward the 'old man' spectrum. His shoes are usually off brand converse shoes and other used sneakers.

As an adult, Dex's sense of style remains largely the same, though better fit and often times more sophisticated in pattern and coordination. His casual wear features fishing shirts and other collared shirts like polos. When the weather permits, he can be found in shorts and flip flops. While more formal occasions rarely occur, Dex often enjoys wearing blazers and slacks for the joy of it.

Dex was raised by his grandparents, and the introduction of a child so late in their lives was a strain on their finances. Their living was enough, but meager. Because of this, Dex's clothing often came from his grandfather's hand-me-downs and the sales rack at thrift stores. Even as an adult, thrift stores and sales racks largely make up his wardrobe.

Dex, having always looked older than his actual age, was his friend groups source for booze and cigarettes. If he were to shave, he’d likely be more appropriately aged, but who is Dex without his scruff.
